Do you ever wonder what an author does before or even while writing a novel?  Even though I write fantasy, I love doing research because it gives me a framework to work within.  In addition to library research, I love doing physical research.  For this particular novel, I took a course in blacksmithing -- after all, my main character is a female blacksmith.  How could I write about her unless I stepped inside her skin and learned how to blacksmith?  I also took courses to learn how to use medieval weapons, and this opened up a whole new world to me.  One of the gifts you'll receive from me is a 23-page ebook I wrote about my researching experiences called "Arms and the Woman."
